Kevin Toksöz Fairbairn is a performer, sound artist, and scholar working around the edges of installation, improvisation, composition, and craft. He has been building traditional, experimental, and invented instruments for decades and currently presents performance installations throughout Europe and North America with hybrid acoustic instruments of his own invention and construction.
His most recent book on material voices and collective creativity, Hylo Narrans: Echoes of Material Marronage, was published by Open Book Publishers in 2025, and his previous monograph on craft, sound, and material agency, dis/cord: Thinking Sound through Agential Realism, was published in 2022 by Punctum Books.
He is a founding member of hoodwink (with Winnie Huang), Blechtrommel (with João Carlos Pacheco), and les Trombones de Bâle, and performs regularly at preeminent new music festivals. Since 2023, he is a researcher and docent at Leiden University.
